Len Fabiano

Leonard A. Fabiano, ChE
Process Design Consultant

Len has a broad range of experience in the process engineering and process development and has played a key roll in conceptual design studies and the detailed design efforts for existing and new technology commercialization. He started his career as a process engineer at Air Products and Chemicals, M.W.Kellogg, Olin Corporation, Manager of Process Engineering at Stauffer ChemicaLand advanced to Manager of Process Engineering for the ARCO CHEMICAL COMPANY for over 23 years.

He’s led the process engineering efforts on many chemical, petrochemical and polymer process plant designs. The technologies implemented ranged from specialty chemicals and polymers to world scale facilities. For example these have included but not limited to thermoplastic elastomers, engineering plastics, polyols, agricultural herbicides, fragrances, ethylene, ammonia, methanol, propylene oxide, metathesis of ethylene and butylene to propylene and many others. Many of these processes were FIRST OF A KIND TECHNOLOGIES. His specialties include application of flowsheet simulation for real plant design and optimization, detailed equipment design, distillation system synthesis, heat exchanger design and in-plant troubleshooting. Len was a member of the industrial community that sponsored and provided guidance in the development of the ASPEN softeware under the DOE grant. He was also personally involved with the creators of the BJAC suite of products from its inception through commercialization and ultimately was acquired by ASPEN Technology, Inc.

His technical involvement at ARCO broadened his geographical and cultural exposure from Alaska, Europe and to the Far East. His experience also includes plant start-up and troubeshooting in the U.S. and overseas.

He bridges the gap from theory through real applications. He is a “’real hands on person” in addition to an academic appointment as Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and has spent considerable time and effort in operating plant environments.
